The Shiniest Jewel by Marian Henley

A Child from Russia

The Shiniest Jewel by Marian Henley

The illustrations in Marian Henley’s graphic autobiography about adoption, The Shiniest Jewel, may be simple, but the emotional impact of the story is big. As an unmarried woman in her 40’s, Henley decides to pursue adopting a child from Russia. The trials she goes through are often heart-breaking (and sometimes hilarious), but the book is ultimately very rewarding. Recommended to anyone who has, or is considering, adopting from a foreign country.
