Downside of Fame
Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher’s autobiography, Wishful Drinking, is a relatively short book, but she packs a lot of humor and pain into the slight volume. Without a trace of self-pity, she discusses her interesting life: growing up with famous parents (Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher), drug and alcohol addiction, the weird downside of “Princess Leia” fame, the dissolving of her marriages, her best friend dying in her bed, and more. If you’ve enjoyed Fisher’s fiction (Postcards from the Edge , Delusions of Grandma) you’ll enjoy this frank and funny look into growing up (and surviving) in Hollywood.
