This book is set in a Fantasy world with fire lizards and dragons as a young girl (Menolly of Half Circle Hold) comes of age and recognizes her goals in life. She then becomes the first female Harper and follows her dreams.Menolly tries to keep an upbeat attitude in a menacing atmosphere from the dreaded Thread attacking her people and from desiring a position as a Harper which previously has only been held by males.
An enjoyable read.
