Dicey's Song, by Cynthia Voigt

Believing in Each Other

After being left by their mentally ill mother to survive their own, the four Tillerman children traveled to their grandmother's rundown farm on the Maryland shore to finally find a home. It is what Dicey has wanted for her three younger siblings, but after they arrive, Dicey finds it hard to let go of her role as caregiver, and allow her Grandmother to be the parent .

Dicey is faced with making new friends, taking on a job cleaning a small grocery store and saying goodbye to her mother, who eventually passes away.

This is a heartwarming story filled with the timeless emotions of a poor family learning to find strength by believing in each other.

Dicey’s Song is a Newbery Award- winning novel and is the second book in the excellent Tillerman Family Series by Cynthia Voigt.
