A Big Little Life, by Dean Koontz
Story of a family pet
Some of the most heartwarming and best loved stories are written about family pets. Dean Koontz writes on the inside front flap of the book that he grew up always wanting a dog and had even featured dogs in several of his fictional books.
Trixie, the main character of this book is a golden retriever, and initially came to him as a retired “service dog”, with Canine Companions for Independence. He states that she quickly became a service dog of another kind, one who taught Dean and his wife many things, such as trusting their instincts, and to whittle down their work weeks. One of the most important concept she taught them both was a renewed sense of wonder that will remain with him for the rest of his life.
The book is full of light-hearted exchanges, many of them downright hilarious. Anyone who enjoys stories about pets, or canine variety pets will surely enjoy this story.
