The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman

Raised by Ghosts

The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman is a young adult book that charms the reader into forgetting time and chores. The story is about a orphaned baby that is saved and raised by an unusual group of people, who did not know his family, but took it upon themselves to raise and protect him anyway. These people are all “mostly” dead, considering they are ghosts and live in a graveyard. They name the child Nobody Owens, and Silas agrees to be the child’s guardian.

Nobody loves his home, but as he grows older he does begin to feel drawn to the outside world even though his family has told him how dangerous that world could be for him. Nobody has a killer after him that will stop at nothing to finish the job he started over a decade ago, and Silas and the rest of Nobody’s family will do everything they can to protect the child they have grown to see as their own.

Gaiman has written a heartwarming story that is somewhat unusual, yet it will leave the reader smiling at the end of the last page.
