Cozy Mysteries

Cozy Mysteries are light mysteries that usually take place in a small town setting with an amateur investigator who stumbles upon the mystery. The sleuth has a normal job ranging anywhere from caterer and decorator, to librarian or homemaker. Cozies tone down crime scenes and are less graphic in descriptions of blood, sex, etc. The crime is an intellectual puzzle that both the reader and the sleuth try to solve through the book with several red herrings thrown in to make it interesting. The sleuth usually has friends or relatives in official places and is not taken seriously by the police. The genre is fun, intellectual, and a study of human nature rather than a thrill ride.
