The Last Gunfighter: Winter Kill, by William W. Johnstone with J.A. Johnstone

A frontier adventure that begins in Seattle and moves to Alaska by way of Canada. It takes place after the Civil War and during the gold rush.

Frank Morgan is known as a gunfighter called “The Drifter” in dime store novels, and he becomes a target for those outlaws who want to be “the one” that kill him. He shoots to save lives and protect himself, but everyone he kills has a relative that is out for revenge.

When a man he meets in Texas gets shot, Frank promises to continue his friend’s business venture by taking a dozen mail order brides to Alaska. Travel by horse, ship and dogsled provide quite an adventure.

It is a very enjoyable page turner with descriptions that will make you feel cool on hot summer days.
