Them Bones, by Caroyln Haines

This book is a page-turner; laugh out loud, type of read. It is a fast paced, upbeat, plot-driving book. The story is set in Zinnia, Mississippi and the main character, Sarah Booth, is not your typical southern belle. She has found herself in a situation, that no self respecting southern lady would allow herself to end up. Sarah is unwed, unemployed and over thirty. She is broke and about to lose her family plantation. She is also haunted by the ghost of her great-great-grandmother's nanny. Jitty loves to remind Sarah of her sorry state, and Jitty suggests what Sarah needs to do to get out of this sorry state.

Jitty suggests to Sarah to kidnap Tinkie's prize pooch, ransoming the dog come up with the money to pay the mortgage. Tinkie asks Sarah to make the drop and Sarah returns Tinkie's dog safe and sound. Tinkie is so pleased with Sarah's work, that she asks Sarah to investigate a 20 year old mystery. Sarah finds herself in unladylike territory asking too many questions. While investigating the 20 year old murders, new corpses turn up and Sarah becomes a suspect. Sarah discovers that digging up the bones of the past, could leave her and others in the grave.
