Perplexing Death
Spider Bones is Kathy Reichs' thirteenth novel featuring her alter-ego Temperance Brennan, forensic anthropologist in Charlotte, N.C and also Quebec, Canada.
This time the mystery involves discovering the true identity of a body found floating in a nearby lake, which seemed simple enough using fingerprints--until the results named a man who was listed as having already died, in Vietnam more than 40 years ago.
The journey to discovery takes Brennan, her friend Ryan, and family to Hawaii, where the U.S. agency JPAC works to identify a disturbing number of deceased servicemen from Vietnam, WWII, and a few others.
To her credit, the author provides information the reader may be able to use to contact JPAC concerning missing members of their own families. Despite a few gratuitous references to product placement, this was a fast-moving and satisfying read, and I recommend it to any fans of the "Bones" TV show.
