Christy, by Catherine Marshall

Inspiring

This classic novel is inspiring. It is based on the real life experiences of the author’s mother who went on a mission to the remote Appalachians to teach.

The main character, Christy, age 19, leaves home to embark on an epic adventure. She faces many trials as she serves the community of Cutter Gap. The primitive living conditions are stark, but Christy sees great beauty in her surroundings. The people are somewhat backward and superstitious, but Christy befriends them.

This is a must read for anyone who is currently going through a tough time, it will change their perspective.
